Berber carpet is a high-density loop pile type of carpet, which provides maximum durability in high traffic areas.  For rooms with children and pets, Shaw provides superior stain resistance with quality manufacturing and proprietary stain resistance technologies.
Shaw’s R2X stain protection treatment adds significant benefits to polyester and polypropylene carpets which are inherently known to attract soil.  Shaw’s high-quality carpet manufacturing provides double the protection by initially using only high-quality fibers and material, in addition to the technologically advanced stain treatment of R2X.  Shaw Berber carpet with R2X stain treatment gives you more time to react to spills and accidents, without wearing away from carpet cleanings or normal wear.
Ordinary stain protection treatments may be only topical soil treatments that quickly wear away with normal use and cleanings, leaving your carpet vulnerable to diminish quickly and leaving you unsatisfied.  Shaw’s R2X stain treatment coupled with a warranty protection provides customers with total and long-lasting satisfaction.
With thousands of color and style combinations, Shaw carpets provide eye catching, soft and pleasing carpet that maintains its beauty and appeal with any color or style choice.

Solutions for Various Carpet Types and Prices

When shopping for carpeting, the numerous carpet types and prices can seem overwhelming.  You may not have realized the number of choices available, from various fibers and pile, and with a wide fluctuation of pricing.

It is worth your time to evaluate your desired application for your new carpet installation, and think about properties that are necessary.  For example, if you need to replace carpeting on a stairway, you’ll want something that is durable and strong that will not lose shape or fade with direct friction applied on each step.  Nylon is a good choice for versatility, while providing strength.  Wool and cotton wear easily and are not ideal for high traffic areas.

Polyester and Polypropylene are also fibers used in carpeting and can have many benefits.  Polypropylene, also known as Olefin, is gaining more awareness as an alternative choice, providing general purpose at a bargain price.  Be sure to talk with your carpeting expert to ensure that your choice of fiber will withstand your purpose.

Along with the variations in carpet types, there are also variations in the carpet price.  Olefin has been a choice for a very inexpensive quick upgrade, where it will not be exposed to super high traffic areas and can sometimes be purchased as inexpensively as under $2 per square foot.

Nylon is a type of carpet that is more middle of the road with pricing, but it provides excellent performance with resistance to soils, stains and fading. This type of carpet is a little more than the Olefin at around $3-5/ square foot, but with so many variations in types of nylon fiber this price can vary.  Either way it is a common choice for many home and business owners today as a good value for the money.

Be sure to contact the experts at Great Western Flooring Co., serving the Chicagoland area with three locations and design centers.  We offer over 25 years of professional carpet and floor installations, providing the best value for residential and commercial customers.  Our professional installation includes floor preparation, removal and recycling of old materials, and intricate design work when needed for detailed geometric areas.

Why Wool Berber Carpet for My Home?

For a thousand years and more, the natural fiber of wool has been used to create handcrafted Berber carpets of unsurpassed beauty. It is a credit to the durability of this natural fiber that many of these carpets still exist.
These days, the manufacturing of wool Berber carpet has been automated to a tremendous degree, but it is still as aesthetically pleasing as ever and even more durable. Here are a few of the more pertinent facts to know about it:
It is still all natural – There are dozens of synthetic variations of carpet available. Still, wool carpeting is the choice of those homeowners who prefer an all-natural, hypo-allergenic, environmentally friendly and extremely comfortable fabric for covering their floors. In addition, wool carpeting repels moisture quite well thus making it both mold and mildew resistant.
It is incredibly durable – While wool is very soft underfoot, this comfort belies the fact that it is also extremely durable. After all, if you think about it, wool actually does a pretty good job of protecting sheep from the weather and other environmental factors. No wonder it lasts so long while protected within a home or office space. Wool also repels common dirt particles and is easy to clean – another reason for its durability.
It can be truly affordable – With the proper care, wool carpet will last for years - keeping its luxurious look even under the rigors of the heaviest foot traffic. If a homeowner considers the long term, this means less replacement costs and a better overall return on investment. In short, it pays to invest in wool carpeting for your home.

The best way to understand the benefits of wool Berber carpet is to experience it. For more information on it and to experience it first-hand, please contact us at Great Western Flooring. We can be found online at www.greatwesternflooring.com or reached directly at 630-357-3331.

Where Berber Carpeting Works Best in a Home

Since time immemorial, handwoven Berber carpets have graced the homes of the rich and famous. These days, however, the mass-produced versions of this durable carpet have become so affordable that they can be used in the most modest of homes. In fact, its versatility makes it an ideal choice for a wide variety of applications in a residential setting. Here are three of the more common spaces where it is especially useful:
In hallways – Manufactured from the most modern materials – nylon and olefin most common – and with its loop pile construction, the latest generation of Berber carpets can withstand an enormous amount of wear and tear. In addition, the finished carpet is coated in high-tech polymers that significantly withstand staining. For this reason, Berber carpet can be used in hallways, entryways and even mud rooms.
In the breakfast nook – As mentioned, the coatings on a Berber carpet are quite stain resistant but not actually stain proof. In fact, no manufacturer can guarantee the latter. Still, Berber carpets that are maintained properly and cleaned up promptly will withstand stains to a greater degree than ones manufactured from natural materials like wool. So, if you want to forego tile in your breakfast nook for a different look and warmer feel, try Berber carpet.
In the great room - This particular space in the home offers a multitude of challenges. It will be used extensively, food and drink will be spilled, and the carpet will still be expected to last a long time as well as provide a feeling of comfort for both the family and guests. No carpet other than Berber can be expected to perform well in this particular environment. Plush carpet will show the stains, shag will get tangled and cut loop will not hold up to the traffic.

From Low to High - What You Can Expect to Pay for Berber Carpet

Berber carpet is one of the most ubiquitous flooring materials found in the United States. It graces almost every office space, and a large majority of residential homes. There are a number of Berber carpet types that range in price depending on what they are designed and manufactured to do. Here is a quick rundown on them:
The material
By far, the primary determinant of what a Berber carpet will cost is the material it is made from. On the low end of the cost scale is Berber carpet made from the highly durable synthetic fiber, olefin. It is used primarily in commercial applications because of its strength, stain and light resistance, colorfastness, and its ability to withstand both crushing and abrasion from heavy use.
Second on the cost scale is polyester. While not as resistant to crushing (pile flattening), it offers the best resistance to staining. These facts make it ideal for use in high traffic areas of residential homes.
Third on the list – and the most expensive synthetic fiber – is nylon. It is still quite resilient but also offers an enhanced “under foot” feel. It is used extensively in dens and bedrooms.
The most expensive materials used to manufacture Berber carpets are the natural fibers: wool and cotton. All hand woven Berbers (as well as some mass-produced ones), which uses one of these natural materials makes them quite expensive.
The construction
There are two main types of construction when it comes to Berber carpets – looped pile and cut pile. All carpets are manufactured the same way - loops are created and then pushed through the backing material. Some are left as is – looped carpets – and some are sheared across the top to create what is known as “cut pile” carpet. The latter is marginally more expensive because of this extra step, but has become the most popular style of carpet in the U.S.
